"University potato"?

I bought "Daigakuimo" in my university store. It is sweets that sweet potato with syrup. "Daigakuimo" means "University potato". What is meaning? I searched and find some interesting information. Why it was named "Daigakuimo"? The answer is, "The origin of name is unclear"! Even though it have unique name, that's strange. There are few theories, "Sweet potato sweets was popular with university students in Taisyo-Syouwa era", "The university student start selling", but we can't know the truth.

In any case, it was delicious. I'm grateful for the first to propose this sweets.
